This week we explore a much more obscure prophetic book of the Bible called Habakkuk. This handful of chapters models for all of us how to move from honest questioning to patience with God’s timing and God’s response to hope for what God is working in us and in the world.
11/25/2018: The Bible as Story–WHEN WE ARE ARE THE PROPHET
This sermon explores the call of Jeremiah, including all the excuses he made to avoid having to answer that call. It helps us to consider who the prophets are in our world today, telling us the truths we need to hear. And it also challenges all of us to consider when we will be asked to be prophets in our own corners of the world.
11/18/2018: The Bible as Story–Bullies and Fearful Things
This week we continue on with the prophets, coming to Isaiah. Isaiah is often read during Advent because he has a vision of hope and peace that seems like a far cry from our divided and violent reality. How can we better understand his story and live into his vision in 2018 when the world seems worse than ever? How can we let hope be stronger than fear?
