Note: During the summer, beginning on June 17, there will be a single combined service at 10AM. Also, on Tuesday, June 19, we start Tuesday Under the Trees, an informal service in our outdoor sanctuary at 7PM.
Worship at Christ Our Anchor is characterized by a variety of styles, patterns and opportunities. On Sunday we celebrate by gathering in God’s house with a Traditional service (9:30) and a Contemporary service (11:00). On the first Sunday of the month, we celebrate the Lord’s Supper, a table that is open to all.
During the course of the year we also gather for special moments in the life of the community, such as, Holy Week, Blessing of the Animals, Veterans Day service, Blue Christmas and other opportunities to gather as the people of God.
During our Sunday Services, there is ample opportunity for the inclusion of children and youth. We also provide the opportunity for the community to express its concerns, joys and celebrations of life so that we can nurture and care for each other as a faithful gathering of God’s people.
MUSIC AT CHRIST OUR ANCHOR Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands!
Whether you sing, play an instrument or just clap your hands, all are invited to make a ‘joyful noise’ at Christ Our Anchor! COA has several ways to participate musically in worship.
- The Sanctuary Choir is a dedicated group of individuals that come week to sing for the glory of the Lord. The choir participates during the Traditional Service on Sunday mornings from September through June. We meet at 9:00 AM to warm-up for the 9:30 AM service and rehearse on Thursday evenings from 7:30 to 9:00 PM. We welcome anyone from 6th grade to adults who enjoy singing and would like to make that ‘joyful noise.’During the summer months, individuals or small ensembles (both vocal and instrumental) and an occasional pick-up choir provide music for the Traditional Service.
- The Children’s Choir and Mallet Group provides special music at both services occasionally throughout the year as well as a pageant on Christmas Eve. Contact is Nancy Jerome at 410-757-8085 or email@example.com
- The Handbell Choir is a small group of ringers with a big sound! The choir plays about every 6 weeks or so, and invites adults and youth in grades 6 and up to join us. You do not need to be able to read music to play – another chance to make a ‘joyful noise!’ The bells rehearse on Thursdays from 6:15 to 7:15 PM during the school year.
If you are interested in participating in the Sanctuary Choir, the Handbell Choir or are just interested in sharing your talents, please contact Diana Martin, Music Director, at 410-703-2208 (cell), 410-757-0113 (home) or firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Praise Band : The Worship team, led by the assistant music director, Mike Jarjoura, is a group of volunteers that assemble to provide praise and worship music for the COA Contemporary service. They provide full band accompaniment with vocals for contemporary Christian popular music as well as contemporary arrangements of traditional hymns to directly support the service and Pastor’s message. They usually practice at 7PM on Wednesdays.
