3/9/2025: Busy WEEK 1: The Right Tempo

Come to me all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” —
Matthew 11:28-30
Jesus never promised that the yoke would literally be “easy.” This is a mistranslation. In this context of yoking oxen, the translation means “well fitting.” As we begin our “Busy” series, we discover that each of us has a tempo that fits well, that energizes us. What tempo gives you life and energy? What pace of life were we designed to live?

3/5/2025: ASH WEDNESDAY (New Sermon Series: Busy)

This service is the beginning of the season of Lent, and one of Pastor Jessie’s favorites. It also kicks off a new sermon series for Lent:

Lent Sermon Series: BUSY

Come to me all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, I will give you rest. — Matthew 11:28

The season of Lent has often been a time when we traditionally think about “giving something up”.  But what if we thought less about “giving up” and more about “making room?” In this Lent series, we will find out what it really costs to be so busy, and we will invite each other to practices of making room, clearing out, slowing down, and prioritizing for the sake of holistic lives. This holistic life involves living with the rhythms that allow us to thrive, finding a balance between work, play, rest, and reflection. Jesus calls his followers to more than just unbridled consumption or production. Rather, the Scriptures see our lives and bodies as gifts that should be nurtured.

Let us reconnect to an unhurried God!

3/2/2025: Guest Preacher Rev. Kim Copeland

Today we welcome back a favorite guest preacher, Rev. Kimberley Copeland. Kim has been an ordained Baptist minister and certified yoga instructor for nearly 15 years. She leads spiritual retreats with a focus on holistic practices and indigenous rituals. She is also one of Pastor Jessie’s very best friends! She will be preaching about mystery and how we view time and how this all ties into the glorious story of Jesus’ transfiguration.

This is also a Communion Sunday, where we will reflect on the mystery of Jesus through this ritual passed on to us.

2/23/25: Help my unbelief FINAL WEEK: Life Everlasting

In this final week of our series on the Apostles’ Creed, we come to a belief with eternal significance: our belief in resurrection of the dead and life everlasting. We live in a culture that is death-denying, and what impact does this have on our beliefs about life after death? What kind of life is life beyond this world that we have come to know? How does Jesus’ resurrection help us to make sense of this belief? Is life everlasting about more than just some other place we call ‘Heaven’?

We will consider these questions as a believing community in this ongoing journey. It’s okay if it does not all make sense, or if you wrestle with doubt. We hope that you take comfort that we are all prayerfully pondering these things, and that none of us is alone.

2/16/2025: Help my Unbelief: Forgiveness of Sins (Jesus Part 2)

In this second to last week of our brief series on the Apostles’ Creed, we are turning our attention to Jesus as Redeemer and Savior. We will examine His crucifixion and think about what that tells us about God’s forgiveness of human sin. We will think about the dynamics of forgiveness in our own lives and churches, and pray together for hearts filled with the same grace shown to us in Christ.
