This is the beginning of a sermon series on: Learning to Pray Using the Lord’s Prayer
Today we look at the very beginning with “Our Father Who Art in Heaven”, and consider how we view the God that we speak to in prayer. Are we intimidated by God or do we approach God with boldness and intimacy? How do our relationships with our earthly fathers affect how we view “Father God”?
This Sunday we ordained our new Elders, or leaders serving on Session. This is a sacred responsibility based upon the principle of the “priesthood of all believers”. No person of faith is more important than any other. We all have gifts and we all have a calling from God, and how do we embrace these while still dealing with areas of weakness. God chooses imperfect people to be leaders in faith.
This sermon is in honor of our Sunday School Teachers (for both adults and children). It considers how the journey of faith is indeed a journey of lifelong learning. None of us has “arrived”.
This sermon invites each of us to “remember our baptisms”. Water is used as a prominent symbol in our faith for a reason—it is dangerous and chaotic and yet is also a source of our life!
