This week we consider a story about another king: King Solomon, son of David and Bathsheba. He is known as one of the wisest kings in history, and that wisdom was put to the test with the dilemma in this story almost as soon as his reign began. He was not always perfect, but God still used him in His service.

This week we continue on in our narrative Lectionary readings by confronting a very hard Biblical story: King David’s huge mistake with Bathsheba. We consider this story in light of our cultural stories in this time of #MeToo, and wrestle with what it might mean for each of us to take this story personally.

This week is the culmination of our annual stewardship campaign focused on BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS. We use the Narrative Lectionary text from Joshua’s last words to the people of Israel to help us continue to broaden our view of relationships asking: what difference does the church make in the community? How do the relationships we build here affect the world out there? How does focusing on more than myself help to make the world as God intended it to be?

This week, we broaden our scope and ask how our treatment of our neighbors impacts our faith journey. We use the story of God giving his people the ten commandments to make them distinct as His “treasured possession” (Exodus 19). We too are God’s people–called to be different. But how?
