This week in our series on the Apostles Creed, we come a somewhat strange article of our faith. We believe in the catholic church—
note that the lower case “c” in “catholic” means the universal church, as opposed to the specific Roman Catholic Church. We believe that God has created us to be disciples as a community of saints; not perfect and not in competition. What does this look like across such a dizzying array of denominations, theologies and priorities in our world today? Can the Church universal still be relevant? What is our role in the Church in these times? What is it that we are professing belief in and why does our belief in the Church even matter? We will ponder these questions and many more as we continue to meditate on this centuries-old Creed.
