Mission is a very important part our church life at Christ Our Anchor. This is evidenced by the range of efforts, from local outreach to work in other states helping others recover from natural disasters. We provide financial support, donate food and materials, and volunteer our time and talents. For example, see our page about our recent or upcoming mission trips under the COA in the Community heading in the menu.
Christ Our Anchor Presbyterian Church is broadening its vision for mission. In listening to our surrounding community (of all ages), what we hear over and over again is that one of the great unmet needs is in the area of mental health and addiction. We think the church could be a great witness in these areas by getting more involved and supporting community opportunities also.
Here are some current opportunities:
HOPE For All
HOPE for All is a Christian ministry whose mission is to provide basic human necessities (i.e. furniture, housewares, clothing and personal items) to families and individuals without sufficient economic resources. We are a public 501 C3 who serves in Anne Arundel County, parts of Baltimore City and the Appalachian region. Located at 122 Roesler Rd., Glen Burnie, MD 21060, we are open Tues., Wed., and Thur. from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. We have a major yard sale every second Saturday of the month, rain or shine. It is indoors. COA contacts: Dave Williams and Judy Clark
New Jersey Mission Trip
Plans are shaping up for our next mission trip to New Jersey which is planned for the week of October 29th through November 3rd. We will once again be staying at the Morning Star Presbyterian Church in Bayville, NJ and we will be working with a group called the Saint Bernard Project who will be assigning us work sites and construction supervisors. They are working in areas that we have worked in previously such as Brick, Toms River, etc. I have told them we will probably have 10 volunteers coming, but would love to have to increase that number if more of you want to join in. We will drive to Bayville on Sunday afternoon, Oct. 29th and drive back after work on Friday, Nov. 3rd. We prefer to have you for the whole week, but can accommodate fewer days if your schedule doesn’t permit going the full week. The cost is usually about $25 per day for lodging and another $20 – 25 per day for food. Our Mission Committee usually provides about $300 to help out with our expenses. If you are interested in going with us or have any questions, please e-mail Mike and Joan Henderson at email@example.com or call us at 410-757-6525.
